Recovering I
Monotypes on Japanese paper
58 x 49cm
For Unspun, Carolyn Murphy is presenting new monotype works from a series called ‘Recovering’. On Japanese paper, these are semi-abstracted landscapes, that reflect on the fragility of human life and our interconnection with the natural world we share.
The works respond to nature’s powers of recovery and Carolyn’s concerns with our impact on the environment and its impact on us.
Her installation piece ‘Lightly Tethered’ introduces paper kite structures, made from bamboo and hand-printed tissue paper. These are fragile objects, collaged, layered and intertwined. They remind us, amongst other things, of joy, disaster and the limits of our control.
